Hi! I’m Manuela Aronofsky. I have my Master of Science in Library & Information Science from Pratt Institute (2019), with a concentration in Youth, Literacy, and Outreach. I currently work as the Middle School Technology Integrator, and Digital Essentials teacher at The Berkeley Carroll School in Brooklyn. I’m excited to be working now at the intersection of youth technology and youth libraries. My educational mission is to integrate technology efficiently, ethically, and collaboratively into the middle school classroom and curriculum.
DEI (Diversity, Equity + Inclusion) is often at the forefront of my teaching practice. I am significantly involved with two DEI-related initiatives at my workplace – organizing our student affinity spaces (which also involves supporting student-created DEI programming created for our community), and co-facilitating a SEED group for faculty. SEED is a professional development initiative (requiring significant training) that provides a space for participants to engage in identity-focused reflection and practice.
I have served on various professional committees, including the Association of Library Services to Children (ALSC) Organizational Effectiveness Committee, the 2025 Pura Belpré Award Selection Committee, and the NYSAIS Education, Information & Technology Committee, which organizes the annual NEIT conference for librarians & technologists working in New York independent schools. My previous committee work can be found on this page, along with my publications and other professional affiliations.
My other library-related interests include youth data and digital literacy; expanding inclusivity and cultural competency in the school library environment; coordinating volunteer work with the Prison Library Support Network, and teaching the act of reading as a community-building experience.

Beyond libraries… I run Lunita Loft – a community space and rental in Gowanus. I’m also a notary public as of 2022! Contact me if you’re local and need a document notarized quickly and cheaply.
I have 10+ years professional experience in independent bookstores (my second love!) – including as a manager at New York City’s Strand Book Store, the events coordinator at Pegasus Bookstore in the Bay Area, and the incredible Fact and Fiction in Missoula, Montana.
This site includes a resume of my various work experiences, professional projects implemented in the school library environment, examples of library-centered projects completed during my MLIS, as well as information on my professional and volunteer history.
Please contact me if you wish to re-use, or re-purpose any of the projects, and/or materials linked to on this site.
